Craniosacral Therapy

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Our bodies record our life experiences on a cellular level. We can witness this in our daily lives through our posture, our thoughts and emotions, and the way we react to or deal with stress and trauma. Through deep listening, presence and stillness, Craniosacral Therapy allows access to these stored experiences making room for release and resolution.

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle form of bodywork where a light touch is used to allow the therapist to connect with and listen to your body, which in turn may allow you to access a profound place of relaxation and balance. Often clients are so relaxed that they go into a waking dream state or they fall asleep.

Although craniosacral bodywork is hands-on, it involves no physical manipulation.  A client may request an entire session of craniosacral work, and it can easily be combined with other massage modalities, such as Swedish or deep tissue.

A craniosacral session

A Craniosacral Therapy session begins with palpation - examination of specific regions of the body using touch, revealing areas where fluid and energy are restricted or have stagnated. The therapist evaluates your body by paying attention to the fascia (the interconnected web of connective tissue) and the craniosacral rhythm as it manifests throughout the body. Specific bones of the head (cranium) and body (sacrum) are utilized as handles to further sense and evaluate the tissue and the craniosacral rhythm.

What is the craniosacral rhythm?

We house several fluid systems in our bodies, such as blood and lymph. Craniosacral fluid is lesser-known, though extremely important, as it bathes and cushions our brain and spinal column. A subtle rhythm – the craniosacral rhythm - is created throughout our body as this fluid is produced and absorbed. The quality of this rhythm holds special clues to evaluating the health of our muscles and tissue.

Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is an effective way to treat a wide range of conditions including, but not limited to, whiplash injuries, headaches, stress/trauma, depression, back pain, digestive disorders, insomnia, and TMJ issues. Tiny babies to children and adults of all ages all benefit from Craniosacral Therapy.

I am extremely interested and excited about this work and will continue my training in the Craniosacral field. As I deepen my knowledge, allow my intuition to flourish, and assimilate this work into my practice, you will have the potential to experience increased harmony and health on all levels. I am continually amazed at the depth of this work as it transforms my clients as well as myself.
